Hapoel Katamon Jerusalem FC Against Homophobia

April 18, 2015

Hapoel Katamon Jerusalem FC is the first fan-owned football club in Israel. The club currently plays in Liga Alef North division (the third football league) and at their last game, which took place on Friday, April 17 and was against Maccabi Sektzia Ma’alot-Tarshiha F.C., the usual corner flags were replaced by rainbow flags.

A  translation of a post on the club’s official facebook page:

With all the commotion yesterday at Teddy Stadium, you might have missed the upgrading we did to the corner flags… as part of the club’s efforts to fight against homophobia in football, and in general, we changed the corner flags to rainbow flags with the club’s crest, because football belongs to everyone.

Hapoel Katamon won the game 3-1 and are currently top of the league.
